The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has urged mothers across Nigeria to embrace exclusive breastfeeding as World Breastfeeding Week 2026 gets underway. She described breastfeeding as a priceless gift that supports healthy growth, strengthens immunity, and nurtures the bond between mother and child.
In a statement marking the global awareness week, observed from August 1 to 7, Dr. Soludo encouraged expectant and nursing mothers to exclusively breastfeed their babies for the first six months. She stressed that infants do not need water, herbal mixtures, or other foods during this period, as breast milk provides all the nutrients they require.
She added that exclusive breastfeeding plays a vital role in preventing childhood illnesses and reducing infant mortality. She also reaffirmed her commitment to promoting maternal and child health through her Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative.
