The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Mustapha Marwana, a carpenter who was arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State. His release followed investigations that found no evidence linking him to the attack.
A panel set up to investigate the case reportedly found no evidence that the Katsina-born artisan was a member of any terrorist organisation or had operational links to Ansaru, which was blamed for the attack. Following the findings, DSS Director-General Tosin Ajayi ordered his release.
The DSS also reportedly compensated Marwana as part of measures to support individuals cleared after investigations and assist their reintegration into society. An anonymous source said the initiative reflects the current DSS leadership's commitment to addressing the impact of wrongful arrests on cleared individuals.
