The Nigerian Medical Students’ Association (NiMSA) has represented Nigerian medical students at the IFMSA August Meeting 2026 (AM26) General Assembly, held from 1–7 August 2026 at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The Nigerian delegation was officially announced by the NiMSA National Secretariat ahead of the meeting, with delegates representing Nigerian medical students on the international stage.
The 75th IFMSA General Assembly brought together medical students from more than 60 countries, providing a platform for young healthcare professionals to engage in discussions on global health, medical education, public health, human rights, professional and research exchanges, and the future direction of the federation.
For NiMSA, participation in the General Assembly provides an opportunity to contribute the Nigerian medical students’ perspective to global conversations while strengthening partnerships with medical student organisations around the world.
The Assembly featured plenary sessions alongside activities of IFMSA’s various standing committees, including the Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH), Medical Education (SCOME), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SCORA), Human Rights and Peace (SCORP), Professional Exchange (SCOPE), and Research Exchange (SCORE).
The 2026 August Meeting was particularly significant as IFMSA marked its 75th anniversary, bringing together medical students in Astana for a week focused on collaboration, leadership, advocacy, capacity building and global health engagement.
NiMSA’s participation underscores the Association’s role not only in representing medical students within Nigeria but also in providing a voice for Nigerian medical students within the international medical student community.
As Nigerian medical students continue to engage with global health challenges and opportunities, the delegation’s participation in AM26 represents another step towards strengthening international collaboration, leadership and advocacy among the next generation of Nigerian healthcare professionals.
The Nigerian medical student voice is global, and NiMSA is taking it to the table.
